Five Fools & Some Fish

I just wanted to hop on here and tell the story of God's faithfulness in bringing all four of my roommates & I together. I had never lived "on my own" before until last June. Sure, I had lived in a college dorm and been away from home, but I had never been responsible for paying rent, utilities, wifi, & other extra expenses. I was finishing up my Junior year of college, starting to become more involved with Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM) @ EKU, and wanting to get plugged into a community with people my age when I met Caroline Coldiron. She was my bible study leader and she helped introduce me to the BCM and Christian influences. We became buddies and she started telling me about how she was looking for an apartment. Well, as it turned out I was too, and I had no clue how to go about that process. Luckily for me, she did and she soon found a four bedroom, two bathroom apartment situated in Richmond, Ky. The only problem was, we needed more roommates.

As it turned out, Cassie Clair was looking for an apartment too as she was out of a roommate and needed a place to live. Coincidentally, Cassie & I had met a year prior in Manuel's Spanish class at EKU. I sat in front of her, and she was the first person who I ever ate lunch with on campus. I had no idea that a year later, we would reconnect through Caroline Coldiron's bible study or that she would be "the downstairs roomie" in our lovely abode.

Next, the three of us kept looking for roommates when Caroline just so happened to mention to Lyndsey Horn our predicament. Caroline knew Lyndsey through the communication disorders program at EKU and asked if she would like to live with us. Lyndsey said yes, and it was a done deal. I didn't know Lyndsey that well but I knew that she went to the BCM and seemed nice.

Once Lyndsey said yes, we were all set. We met our landlord at the Wendy's in Richmond, signed the lease, and moved in. Mind you, the day I signed the lease was the first day that I had ever set foot in that apartment which in hindsight is not a very smart thing to do. You should always check a place out before you decide to permanently live there for x amount of time. However, in all fairness, Cassie & Caroline had facetimed Lyndsey & I when we were first looking at it and I had seen pictures of it enough to know that it was decent & roomy. So, I wasn't too concerned about anything. We put the electric in Caroline's name, the water in Cassie's, the rent in Lyndsey's, and the wifi in mine. We paid one month's rent & utilities when we got a text from Caroline saying that she could no longer live with us due to unforeseen circumstances.

We freaked out...or at least I did. I was worried if I would still be able to live there, but I was even more worried about who we could get to live with us. That's when about three weeks later, Cassie messaged Tiffany Cannon & Courtney Carroll about our place. I had met them previously at the BCM as well and thought they were nice. They had been looking for a three bedroom apartment with another one of their friends but they couldn't find anything available. So, they decided to come check out the apartment and see whether or not they could live with the three of us... and they agreed to move in.

Flash forward to the present, Tiff & Court now share a room, I live across the hall from Lyndsey, and Cassie lives downstairs in the basement. Rent is cheaper, the cost of living is less expensive when you split stuff five ways, and our crib is full of laughter. I absolutely love living with these girls and God could not have worked it out any better. We hang out, we go on roomie adventures, we share late night talks & even tears on occasion. We have movie nights, puzzle nights, and make spontaneous Dollar General/Cook-Out runs whenever one of us is either having a birthday/celebration or is craving a chicken quesadilla or oreo milkshake. We go to worship nights, bible studies, and church together. Oh, and I almost forgot, we have a lovely fish tank which contains our aquatic frogs, snails, and tropical fish. We lift each other up and hold each other accountable. I simply am blessed with the best roommates a person could ask for. I am grateful for the joy that they bring to my life and the fun times we have together. They got me through my senior year of college and will hopefully get me through these next couple of years.

So, here's a toast to my four ride or dies. Let's keep making our silly tiktok videos, forgetting to take our clothes out of the dryer, cooking shareable meals, and laughing til' our tummies hurt. I love you all very much.
